NCBA CLUSA CEO Mike Beall helps lead first DE Training in Africa

NCBA CLUSA president and CEO Mike Beall is among a team of program facilitators and mentors in Nairobi, Kenya this week helming the first ever continent-wide Credit Union Development Education (DE) Training program in Africa.

Meetings with leaders in the Kenyan credit union industry, youth bunges, Savings and Credit Cooperatives (SACCOs) and cooperative healthcare workers are demonstrating the impact and potential of the credit union movement in Kenya and Africa as a whole.

“As financial cooperatives, credit unions are integral players in helping make international development work sustainable, providing critically needed local funding for everything from nutrition-led agriculture to community-based health,” said Amy Coughenour, NCBA CLUSA COO for International Development.

“Mike’s involvement in DE Training helps cement our position in Kenya and around the world as leaders of the cooperative movement and its impact on social and economic development,” she said.

The annual Consumer Cooperative Management Association Conference unites leaders from the consumer co-op sector to network and share best practices in the pursuit of improved operations, governance, consumer education and marketing strategies.

For the first time, CCMA will convene these organizations in an exhibit space we’re calling The Village—your educational hub at this year’s conference in Madison, Wisconsin.
