Co-op Professionals Track: Immigrant-Owned Worker Cooperatives – Regulations and Best Practices

This session covers Immigration Reform and Control Act basics, choice of entity and governance considerations, member-managed LLCs, marketing and referral cooperatives, governance models for ensuring sufficient member control, tax and accounting hurdles and solutions, pass-through taxation basics, allocations based on patronage, retained earnings, member tax requirements, and best practices and emerging models.

This session includes discussion and Q&A chaired by Sara Stephens, Esq. (Staff Attorney, Sustainable Economies Law Center) and featuring panelists Missy Risser (Staff Attorney, Equitable Neighborhoods and Capacity-Building, Urban Justice Center), Daniella Preisler (Cooperative Development Fellow, Prospera) and Bruce Mayer (MBA, CPA, Wegner CPAs).

The Cooperative Professionals Track of IMPACT 2017 is supported by the Sustainable Economies Law Center, a State Bar of California approved MCLE provider. The Law Center certifies that the Thursday, October 5 sessions have been approved for 1.5 hours of California MCLE credit per session.
