As a global movement, co-ops address issues of income equality, decent work and empowerment with a focus on community. Promoting the link between co-ops and achieving the SDGs was the theme of this year’s International Day of Cooperatives.

As part of the High-Level Political Forum on Sustainable Development, the Committee for the Promotion and Advancement of Cooperatives (COPAC) is hosting the official United Nations event celebrating International Day of Cooperatives in July.

To celebrate the day, COPAC is hosting a photo exhibition at United Nations headquarters in New York, which is on display from July 4 – 20, 2016. The photos in the exhibition exemplify how cooperatives and cooperative development agencies have “the power to act for a sustainable future"—this year’s International Day of Cooperatives theme.

Photos from NCBA CLUSA projects in Niger and East Timor represent the power of cooperatives to build strong rural communities and empower women. The exhibit and accompanying booklet highlight the role of cooperatives in 9 of the 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). The booklet will be sent to every country mission office at the United Nations headquarters.

See a copy of the booklet here and join the Co-ops for 2030 campaign by pledging your co-op to help move towards sustainability.
