Manager of Business Development (Freelance/Consultant), Freelancers Union

Freelancers Union is sponsoring new, member-driven, nonprofit health plans in Oregon, New Jersey, and New York. Independent Worker Services (a subsidiary of Freelancers Union) is looking for passionate, entrepreneurial employees to support these Consumer Operated and Oriented Plans (CO-OPs) and be part of the latest innovation in health care—one that will provide more affordable insurance benefits to thousands of Americans.

We are seeking a talented freelancer to fill the role of Manager of Business Development. Independent Worker Services (IWS) provides a range of services to other social-purpose businesses. The Manager of Business Development will build market opportunities by locating, developing, defining, negotiating, and closing business relationships. The Manager of Business Develop will also be responsible for driving social-purpose, mission-driven programs and services, which means maintaining a balanced focus on providing high quality, consumer-oriented products and services with long-term financial sustainability.

Responsibilities

  1. Identify trendsetter ideas by researching industry and related events, publications, and announcements; track social-purpose, mission-driven organizations with which to build new partnerships
  2. Screen potential business deals by evaluating options and long-term financial sustainability, analyzing market strategies, deal requirements, potential, and financials
  3. Proactively develop, expand, and improve current Freelancers Union products and services
  4. Develop negotiating strategies and positions by studying integration of new venture with IWS strategies and operations; examine risks and potentials; estimate partners' needs and goals and assess compatibility with FU mission
  5. Close new business deals by coordinating requirements; developing and negotiating contracts; integrating contract requirements with IWS processes and infrastructure that maintain appropriate operational and financial controls
  6. Protect organization's reputation by providing high quality, consumer-oriented services and long-term financial sustainability
  7. Increase growth in revenues by expanding current services and products by working closely with partners and exploring new venues
  8. Manage the proposal development process (RFP process) and maintain the timelines for the proposal teams
  9. Maintain the Business Development databases
  10. Enhance organization reputation by accepting ownership for accomplishing new and different requests and explore opportunities to add value to job accomplishments

Skills and Experience

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience
  • 5+ years of experience as a Business Developer
  • Motivation for Sales, Prospecting Skills, Sales Planning, Selling to customer needs
  • Strong social-purpose enterprise market knowledge a must
  • Ability to develop and manage development proposal project schedules
  • Effective presentation techniques
  • Excellent quantitative and analytical skills
  • Experience selling new concepts or programs a plus
