Oregon - General Manager

First Alternative Co-op seeks an experienced General Manager to manage its recently expanded, two-store operation in Corvallis, Oregon.  Candidates with proven leadership, managerial and planning capabilities, extensive financial background, experience in the grocery industry, and a positive record of people and personnel skills are encouraged to apply.

The GM will work with a cohesive and experienced board of directors and seasoned staff of 120 to build the business and ensure continued financial success and fiscal responsibility.  We value experience in cooperatives, the natural foods industry, multi-store management, and policy governance.

Job Description

The successful applicant will become a part of our production team which seeks to be a highly effective and flexible team producing the finest coffees in the world.  The individual will be expected to learn and perform all of the tasks and activities associated with operating a coffee roasting facility.

 

Reports To: Production Manager

Status: full time, worker owner track employee

 

Duties &Responsibilities

 

I. Roasting-

a.       staging green coffee to meet daily production schedules

b.      batch roasting coffee to spec set by QC Manager

c.       work with QC to adjust roast profiles and blends as needed

d.      coordinate with packaging team to pack out roasted product

e.      performing QC protocols as required by QC manager

f.        continual learning and experimentation for quality and process improvement

 

II. Inventory-

                a.   coordinate the palletizing of floor loaded green coffee

                b.   entering green coffee into inventory systems

 

III. Packaging-

a.       packing cases on packaging line as necessary

b.      palletizing cases as necessary

c.       other tasks as necessary

 

IV. Maintenance

a.       periodic roaster cleaning

b.      preventative maintenance of facilities equipment

c.       other facilities management tasks as assigned by supervisor

               

III. Other-

a.       Participate in Production Cuppings

b.      attend staff meetings

c.       participate in cooperative structure and processes

d.      perform other tasks as assigned by supervisor

 

 

Qualifications

 

 

  • Must love coffee
  • Roasting experience highly desirable
  • Experience in food production environment a big plus
  • Mechanical/Electrical skills highly desirable
  • Basic math and conversion skills
  • Ability to solve problems
  • Attention to detail
  • Fanatic about producing a quality product
  • Ability to create and adapt systems
  • Computer literate
  • Ability to lift 75 lbs
  • Push/pull 1400 lbs using supplied equipment
  • Frequent bending, twisting required
  • Applicant must be able to stand for the entire shift
