International Cooperative Alliance

International Co-operative Alliance

Established in 1895, the International Co-operative Alliance is the Apex organization for cooperatives worldwide. NCBA CLUSA represents U.S. cooperatives to this body. In 2000, the ICA backed NCBA CLUSA’s proposal for cooperatives to adopt the .coop Top Level Domain. The technical infrastructure for the .coop TLD was developed by the worker cooperative Poptel in the United Kingdom and became operational in 2002. In 2013, ICA launched a new visual identity for co-ops and a rebranding campaign. The global cooperative marque is designed to differentiate co-ops from other forms of business.
